After a thrilling 23-lap race in Melbourne, it was Joshua Durksen that took the top spot on the podium, with Noel Leon coming second and Alexander Dunne settling for third. Out of the two Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy representatives, it was Rafael Camara who got the better of Dino Beganovic in the F2 Australia Sprint Race. Camara’s daring moves under braking made him a worthy winner of this internal Ferrari battle, but a bad safety car restart from the Brazilian undid all his hard work. Beganovic also had issues during the race, meaning it was one to forget for the Ferrari Academy drivers.

A Rafael Camara Fumble Gives An Unlucky Dino Beganovic A Lifeline

After starting 10th overall, Dino Beganovic would have been confident of finishing in the top eight and claiming some early Formula 2 championship points. However, after getting tangled up in traffic early in the race, Beganovic got sent to the rear of the field. The Swedish driver went into the pits shortly after, and although he kept on running, his race was clearly done. Beganovic was setting fast times on his fresh tires, so he should be much more competitive in the Feature Race later this weekend in Melbourne. His Ferrari Driver Academy rival, Rafael Camara, also ran into trouble during the F2 Australia Sprint Race.

Camara was looking like the driver of the day out there for most of the race, but after a poor safety car restart, the Brazilian went from fourth to eleventh within a matter of corners. It seemed like dirty tires might have played a role in his dramatic drop-off in performance. This was a real shame, as Camara pulled off some amazing overtakes earlier in the sprint race, but sadly he finished the contest with nothing to show for all his hard work. Although he'll never say it, I'm sure Beganovic is somewhat happy that his Ferrari rival didn't finish on the podium while he struggled at the back of the pack. Either way, Camara still got the better of the Swedish driver in this race.
